Security
At a time when entertainment-asset piracy frequently makes
headlines, it is important that all caption companies offer
the best possible security and confidentiality to their customers.
VITAC leads the industry in this effort with outstanding commitment
to the protection of program assets and intellectual property.
We've created a culture of confidentiality encompassing six
different aspects of our service:
- People and Policies
- Production Procedures
- Infrastructure
- Hardware
- Software
- Customer Interface
People and Policies:
All of VITAC's English-language captioners are employees
and sign a strict confidentiality agreement upon the start
of employment. The confidentiality agreement is posted internally
and reviewed with each employee annually. Internet usage is
monitored on an ongoing basis. Independent contractors hired
for multi-language captioning and subtitling are subject to
these same confidentiality requirements.
Production Procedures:
VITAC uses remote captioners for realtime services only.
All prerecorded shows for customers who supply video tapes
or FTP digital video files for offline captioning are captioned
on site, with close supervision, assuring the highest degree
of confidentiality and client-asset protection.
All analog and digital assets are handled or disposed of
according to client specifications and all in-house tapes
and encoding or duplication equipment are kept in a secure
location.
Infrastructure:
VITAC’s office infrastructure is compliant with the
regulations approved by the Motion Picture Association of
America (MPAA). These include but are not limited to secure
facility entrances, secure tape and digital-file storage and
disposal, and the use of closed-circuit cameras.
Caption software and equipment is standard in all facilities
with computer-administrative rights belonging only to IT personnel.
Hardware:
All recording devices on captioner computers are disabled,
and laptops are not used for captioning. Recording devices
for use in our realtime captioning department are kept in
a central locked location. Our centralized, server-based controls
limit access to assets on the network. All email attachments
are restricted to 9MB and file-transfer access is limited
via strict routing rules.
Software:
Firewalls, virus shields, anti-spyware and other system protections
are closely monitored and updated.
Customer Interface:
All video programming is stored digitally in a centrally
managed server with tightly restricted access. We recommend
our customers deliver video in a low resolution MPEG-1 digital
file format using our SSL secured File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
video file delivery connection.
