VITAC to Provide
Spanish Captioning for Telemundo's Hoy en el Mundo
Pittsburgh, PA; November 17, 2004 - VITAC, the industry leader
in closed captioning, today announced that it has been selected
by Telemundo to caption the network's morning news program,
Hoy en el Mundo (Today in the World) hosted by well-known
journalists, Jose Diaz-Balart and Marian de la Fuente. Hoy
en el Mundo, the only network morning news program in Spanish-language
television, is a two-hour morning news program airing Monday
through Friday at 7 a.m./6 Central. The program offers breaking
news coverage as well as compelling and interesting features
designed to reflect the diverse Spanish-speaking audience
throughout the United States.
The FCC mandates that all new Spanish-language programming
that was first shown after January 1, 1998, must be captioned
by 2010. The phase-in schedule for this mandate currently
requires the captioning 450 hours of programming per channel
per quarter. VITAC also provides Spanish captioning for The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC and Al Rojo Vivo con Marie
Celeste, Telemundo's evening news magazine show. VITAC also
recently captioned Telemundo's broadcast of the Olympic Games.
There are 13 million Hispanic households in the United States
(both hearing and deaf) who may benefit from Spanish captioning.
"As Spanish-language TV continues to grow rapidly in
the United States, VITAC is pleased to provide accessibility
through quality Spanish captions to the approximately 2 million
deaf Hispanic caption-viewing audience," said Patricia
Prozzi, CEO, VITAC.
VITAC, a WordWave company, is a leading provider of captioning
and multi-language subtitling services with offices in North
