VITAC and TranslateTV
awarded at NAB
April 28, 2003
Pittsburgh, PA (April 28, 2003) VITAC, the national leader
in captioning and multi-language subtitling; and TranslateTV,
a pioneer in real-time machine translation solutions and a
service of Global Translation, Inc; were awarded three NAB
"Pick of Show" awards for their unique television
technology solution shown at this year's National Association
of Broadcasters convention (NAB 2003, April 8-13). VITAC and
TranslateTV's exclusive partnership enables live, instantaneous
translation of English to Spanish captions.
VITAC and TranslateTV were one of only 20 recipients (including
Apple, Sony, Zenith, etc.) of this year's Broadcast Engineering
Top Pick Award. Government Video Magazine awarded VITAC and
TranslateTV for "Innovative Achievement in the Advancement
of Video Technology" and the Digital Television/TV Broadcast
Award was presented in recognition of outstanding achievement
in the advancement of the art and science of video technology.
As the Hispanic marketplace grows rapidly (now 13% of U.S.
population), this state-of-the-art technology, allows television
broadcasters and producers to reach this critical and burgeoning
market for less time and money than is traditionally required
to create Spanish captioning. TranslateTV's proprietary, patent-pending
technology consists of rules-based linguistic and unique caption-processing
software. The software is able to provide real-time translations
through a range of mediums including broadcast TV, cable,
satellite and Internet streaming video.
"VITAC is proud to be recognized among our peers in
the broadcast industry for this new, cost-effective solution
we are able to provide in conjunction with TranslateTV,"
said Joseph Karlovits, CEO, VITAC. "VITAC is the only
captioning company that can offer our customers this way to
reach Hispanic television homes without the significant cost
of dubbing programs in Spanish and without the cost and difficulty
involved in finding skilled real-time captioners able to provide
this service."
"TTV is one of the most significant recent product introductions
that will allow broadcasters to reach the non-English audience,
in real time, in up to eight different languages, at a price
that is affordable and with virtually no effort on their part..
We are grateful to the folks at this years NAB for selecting
us for three of the top awards at the conference. The unsolicited
selection by our peers validates the efforts that we have
made to develop this service," said Joel Rudich, CEO
of TranslateTV. "We believe VITAC's high quality standards
and proven leadership in the caption industry makes them an
ideal partner with which to launch our service."
