VITAC launches Subtitling Division

May 14, 2003

VITAC, a leader in the captioning industry for nearly 20 years, is now entering the subtitling market both in the United States and internationally. VITAC's new Multi-Language Subtitling Division is primarily designed to provide the industry with the fastest turnaround time in the industry, recognizing the old adage – “time is money.” Enlisting veterans of the subtitling industry, VITAC has created a global network of over 170 language experts skilled in the art of subtitling in 36 different languages and using state-of-the-art technology, which allows VITAC to not only offer the fastest turnaround time but also keep costs down and quality high.

"Subtitling is a critical component of DVD production," said Patricia Prozzi, president of VITAC. "VITAC's years of experience in captioning and now our multi-language subtitling expertise enable us to satisfy our customers increasing needs for the fastest turnaround times, high quality and exceptional service. We’ve demonstrated this ability consistently for clients in 2003 prior to this official launch."

The major film studios plan to release thousands of titles on DVD in the coming year including a record number of library titles and television series. Since the DVD wave exploded on the movie scene more than seven years ago, post-production budgets and deadlines have been compressed in an effort to meet greater worldwide market distribution demands. Faster turnaround times enable studios to enjoy the benefits of the film’s initial marketing campaign thus dramatically reducing costs and creating a successful DVD premiere. They also allow studios the opportunity to make up the inevitable production delays to meet scheduled DVD release dates.

"VITAC recognizes these industry needs and is committed to beating the standard turnaround times," said Patricia Prozzi, VITAC President. "We also meet the industry’s need for security, providing the most stringent and leading edge security measures to protect movie assets."

Subtitling allows American films to be more marketable around the globe and additionally allows Americans access to the most popular foreign films. Quality subtitling requires highly skilled and technically adept craftspeople to capture the original languages’ meaning and appropriately adapt that meaning to their native language. Subtitles must be presented at a comfortable reading speed so that viewers can take the time to enjoy both the film and the art of translation.

Executives and production staff from the top film and production studios are invited to join VITAC on May 14, 2003 for an "An Evening of International Intrigue" at the Magic Castle in Hollywood to celebrate the launch of VITAC's new service.
