Pop-on Style Captioning

Offline captioning, for prerecorded programming, is a core service that VITAC has provided for over 20 years. Our offline managers have an average of 12 years with VITAC, and this experience ensures your project will be captioned correctly, formatted and timed properly, and delivered in your preferred timeframe.
VITAC’s offline captioners, located in three interconnected US offices, are responsible for captioning 15,000 hours of programming per year for customers including The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, The Travel Channel, Lifetime, NBC, TV One and BET J. Our Canonsburg headquarters is staffed 24/7, allowing us to meet tight turnarounds and still maintain the quality captions for which we are famous.
VITAC’s skilled and friendly client services department works with customers to determine the perfect deliverable. There is not a file format or turnaround request that they haven’t heard. Client Services and sales departments are ready to help you solve your captioning problems!
Captioning Styles
The examples on this page show two popular offline captioning styles: pop-on and roll-up captioning.
Pop-on captioning pops on the screen, one phrase at a time, with captions timed to match shot changes and positioned near the speaker.
Roll-up captioning rolls up the screen, two or three lines at a time. Captions do not match shot changes and speakers are identified with carets (>>).

Tapeless
Many of VITAC’s customers are going or have gone tapeless, and we have stayed ahead of the curve to accommodate these changes. VITAC’s offline captioning department accepts nearly any file format as a work tape or end product, including .MPG, .WMV, and QuickTime files. Sending files via FTP eliminates shipping time and costs and has been an enormous success with customers. Contact your sales representative for more details.
